Tencent’s Aceville Faces ICANN Complaint Over DNS Management Issues

Aceville, though not widely recognized, operates under the umbrella of the Chinese tech giant Tencent (HKEX: 00700; ADR traded as OTCMKTS: TCEHY). The company conducts its business through DNSPod at the website DNSPod.com. Adding to the complexity, Tencent also owns a registrar called DNSPod, Inc., which provides services at DNSPod.cn.

As of May, Aceville managed approximately 80,000 .com domains, while its counterpart, DNSPod, Inc., oversaw over 500,000 domains.

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has lodged a complaint specifically against Aceville, or DNSPod.com, citing violations of five provisions in its accreditation agreement. The primary concern is Aceville’s failure to adequately address DNS abuse complaints. Additionally, the company has not implemented the Registration Data Access Protocol (RDAP), further compounding its compliance issues.
