auDA, the governing body for Australia’s .au country code top-level domain, has announced the appointment of Bruce Tonkin as its new CEO. Tonkin, who is set to assume the role in January, has been with auDA since 2017 and has served as its Chief Operating Officer since 2018.
Tonkin brings extensive experience in the domain industry to his new role. Prior to joining auDA, he spent nearly 20 years at Melbourne IT and was a member of ICANN’s board of directors from 2007 to 2016, including a term as vice chairman from 2011 to 2015.
He succeeds Rosemary Sinclair, who has led auDA since March 2020 and announced her departure earlier this year.
The .au domain is one of the largest country code top-level domains, closing the previous year with 4.25 million domains under management.
