Afternic has officially outlined its migration strategy as Dan.com prepares for its closure. According to the latest update, new registrations for Dan.com accounts are no longer accepted.
A four-week migration period will soon commence, during which existing Dan.com accounts can be transitioned to Afternic. Users will have the option to choose between self-migration, auto-migration, or opting out of the migration process altogether.
The migration is particularly crucial for those with domains listed on Dan.com that are not yet on Afternic. These users will need to move their domains to Afternic as part of the transition.
Key points to note about the migration include:
Nameservers: While Dan’s nameservers will remain functional, users who prefer alternatives to the Afternic Custom Lander will need to update their nameservers to Afternic.
Lease-to-Own Transactions: Existing lease-to-own agreements will be transferred to Afternic in November.
Ongoing Negotiations: Any active negotiations on Dan.com should be concluded before the migration period ends.
Functionality: Most features of Dan.com are now available on Afternic, though the ability to self-broker is still pending. Afternic has announced that self-brokering will be introduced soon but has not yet provided a specific timeline.
These updates aim to ensure a smooth transition for users and preserve continuity in domain management and transactions.
